Terence Blanchard composed the original score for the film “Da 5 Bloods,” a collaboration with Spike Lee. The score for the film was created with a 90-piece string orchestra. Blanchard’s score reflects both the humor and the post-traumatic stress experienced by the characters, who are African American veterans returning to Vietnam.
In addition to the original score, the film features several songs, including six songs from Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” which Blanchard saw as a basis for the score’s grandeur and universal themes. The music in the film also includes the duduk, played by flautist Pedro Eustache, which Blanchard said brought a “certain color and tone to the film that was perfect”.

“Spike [Lee] is the type of guy who is always making visual commentaries. So you may read the dialogue from the scene, then visually he may be doing something else totally different. ” Terence Blanchard, Composer Magazine
